CHOOSING A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
When you choose your wedding photographer, you're not just buying a service, you're investing in memories. That's why you should seek a talented photographer whose style fits your personal vision of the wedding day.
The following information will help you understand the wide range of photography options, making it easier to find the right one for you. We have put together several examples, representing the and approaches such as film and digital wedding photography used today. A basic understanding of these styles will save you plenty of time when it comes to choosing a right photographer for you.
Traditional wedding photography style
The of history wedding photography starts with traditional style photography. This is the timeless style that you've probably seen time and time again. The hallmark of this style is carefully posed photographs of the key moments. Benefits: The traditional photographers usually use a planned "shot list", which means you'll get all the important images. Drawbacks: The photographer virtually becomes a "wedding official," directing the wedding party and guests according to a pre-planned list. This approach is very time consuming, and as a result, the bride and groom end up spending less time with their guests. The wedding album look is attractive, yet predictable.
WEDDING PHOTOHRAPHER
Contemporary style also known as photo reportage and documentary approach, photojournalism has become a very popular style of wedding photography, featuring a series of candid photos covering the entire day. Benefits: Wedding photojournalism gives you a series of unique images aimed to "tell the story" of your wedding day. Drawbacks: There is no pre-planned "shot list," only the photographer's instincts; images are unpredictable. Low levels of available light may cause some pictures to look grainy. The couple may regret the absence of traditional, posed portraits in their album.
ENGAGEMENT PHOTOGRAPHY
Many of today's wedding photographers offer engagement photography session as part of their wedding packages. There are a couple of reasons for that. One of them is to let a couple feel more comfortable with photographer's presence and let a photographer to decide what are best angles for the couple. Engagement photography is a stress free photography. It will be much easier for a couple to relax and express their feelings and emotions. It can also be viewed as short training session where photographer will explain about looking better on wedding photos. Engagement photographer might provide his clients with tips about wedding photography. It is might be good idea to start your wedding album with the few good photographs from the engagement session in order to create logical timeline.
DESTINATION WEDDING
Photographing weddings nation or worldwide isn't an easy project for any photographer. It requires special preparations, extra time, travel arrangements, additional communication, etc.,
ILLUSTRATIVE PHOTOGRAPHY
The illustrative style photographers place the subjects in certain settings to take advantage of good lighting or backgrounds. Then, once the scene is set, the couple and their party are free to be themselves, and this results in a more spontaneous feel. Unlike the photojournalism style, illustrative photography takes advantage of the photographer's artistic judgment rather than capturing a series of moments. This style often used in engagement photography
SHOPPING FOR A WEDDING PHOTOGRAPHER
Shopping for a wedding photographer isn’t like selecting outfits and bridal bouquets for one simple reason: you can’t see the pictures you’re buying until after you’ve made your decision. In the end, your decision will be largely a matter faith. For many, price ends up being the primary determining factor, which doesn't make much sense when you consider that there are no second chances.
PROTECT YOUR WEDDING
As a wedding photographer, I've seen times when something goes wrong on a wedding day and couples pay extra money trying to fix it. Perhaps you prefer not to think about it, bad things can happen on your wedding day.So what is wedding insurance -- and how does it work? Basically wedding insurance protects a couple's investment from circumstances beyond their control, and reimburses all sudden expenses. Example: if your wedding photographer become sick and you have to hire another one the morning of the wedding for three times the normal price or your wedding cake melted because fridge broke down or your limo driver not shows up? Or what if the groom's tuxedo damaged in airport luggage, and he has to buy a new one the day before the wedding? What if your reception place destroyed by the storm a week before the wedding, and you have to book another one? Of course it rarely happens, but if it will ? Wedding insurance will protect you in such a cases, and give you peace of mind. From a sudden cancellation to a damaged gowns, it can be a huge comfort, especially for an event such as wedding.
WHO IS RESPONSIBLE FOR WHAT
Usually, it is the bride's family that carries the responsibility of the wedding expenses but there are some costs supposed to be covered by the groom's side. Of course there are some expenses that both the bride and groom are expected to pay for.Bride's family; The entire cost of the reception. Includes: food, wedding cake, beverages, decorations, music, flowers. A wedding gift for the newlyweds. The wedding invitations, and mailing costs. Bride's wedding dress. The fee for engagement and wedding photography and videography. Ceremony: rental of ceremony space, fees for organist, soloist or choir and any other additional costs for decorations. Bridesmaid's bouquets. Parking costs & coat check fees. Transportation for bridal party to the wedding ceremony and from ceremony to reception. Bridesmaid's luncheon and rehearsal dinner.
Groom's family:
Any travel expenses and hotel bills. Wedding gift for bride and groom. Optional: the rehearsal dinner or other expenses they elect to assume.
Groom:
The bride's rings (wedding & engagement). A wedding gift for the bride. The marriage license. Gifts for the best man and ushers. Flowers: bride's bouquet and going away corsage, corsages for mothers, boutonnieres for the men in the wedding party. Accommodations for out-of-town ushers or best man. Gloves, ties or ascots for the men in the wedding party. Fee for the clergy. The honeymoon.

The Attendants:
Wedding attire. Travel expenses. Wedding gift for the couple.
Wedding photography equipment
Recently I hear much less concerns about quality of digital photography however once in a while I answer questions about equipment wedding photographers use.
The best advice I can give you concerning wedding photography equipment is this: don't worry about it! That doesn't mean you shouldn't make sure your wedding photographer has high quality equipment and knows how to use it. It just means that a specific type of camera should not be your first concern.
Bottom line: the quality of your wedding photos depends much more on the photographer's skill, experience, and judgment than what type of camera is used.
What are the advantages and disadvantages of larger format cameras?
As a rule, the larger the negative, the higher the quality or "resolution." If you want the highest possible quality regardless of price, the 4 x 5 or 8 x 10 view camera is the way to go. The "4 x 5" refers to the size of the negative - four inches by five inches. In contrast, 35 mm negatives measure approximately 1 x 1.5 inches, so compared to 35 mm film, the 4 x 5 negative is 13 times larger. The higher resolution of the 4 x 5 is most noticeable with print sizes greater than 20 x 30. Otherwise, a smaller format is all you need.
As far as disadvantages, the following general rule also applies: the larger the format, the higher the cost and slower the speed. If you need really big prints ( ex, 40" x 60"), then a larger format is worth the extra money. If not, ask your photographer what he recommends. Always remember - professional photographers always work with professional equipment and won't change it by request. However, you might have certain expectations from your photographer so understanding what equipment will he or she use, will help to make sure you get what you want.
What about digital wedding photography?
Digital photography has come a long way in recent years, and many photographers are now using digital equipment exclusively with excellent results. Some statistics show about 70% US wedding photographers partially or full converted to digital.
If in doubt as to whether your wedding photographer is using the right equipment - again - ask lots of questions. Just remember that, even though you may have well meaning friends with opinions on the matter, unless your friends are professional photographers, they are not experts. Hire a photographer you feel you can trust, then trust his or her ability to choose the right equipment
